Winter, and it isn’t close. Here’s why: and why that’s the opposite of what most people assume.
| Period | Conditions | What to book |
|---|---|---|
| Nov to Dec | Leaves off, ground firming. Excellent. | Clearing, mulching, survey and boundary lines, larger acreage work. |
| Jan to Feb | The best window of the year. Cold, dry, dormant. | Anything. Big jobs, retained-tree work, fine finish work. |
| Mar to Apr | Still good early, growth starting. Peak demand. | Book ahead: everyone else is calling now too. |
| May | Warming, growth heavy, ground softening. | Storm prep before hurricane season. Firebreak refresh. |
| Jun to Jul | Hot, wet, full growth. Hardest working conditions. | Hunting land: lanes, plots, breaks, camp roads. |
| Aug to Sep | Hot, storm-exposed, wettest ground of the year. | Food plot ground work. Last window before the season. |
| Oct | Cooling, drying, storm cleanup. Good again. | Recovery work. Too late for fall plot establishment. |
Landscapers are busiest in spring and summer because that’s when things grow. Clearing works best when things aren’t growing. If you’re pacing your project on landscaper seasonality you’ll book clearing at exactly the wrong time of year, and pay more for worse conditions.
Most people can’t schedule around the ideal window, because there’s a closing, a permit, a pour date or a survey driving it. That’s fine and we work year round. What changes is that in summer we’ll be more cautious about ground conditions, more likely to suggest a lighter underbrush pass over full mulching on soft ground, and more willing to tell you a job should wait a week for a dry spell.
We’re one operator with a finite number of machine-days a month. March and April fill first, then July through September for hunting land. If you have a date driving your job, a closing, a pour, a season opener, call as early as you can. A booked date is worth more than a good price on a date that’s gone.
Call and you get John Williams, not an answering service and not a dispatcher. If it’s after hours or a Sunday, send the form and you’ll have a text back and a callback first thing.
