Briar, vine, saplings and scrub taken out from under a stand you’re keeping, the same mulching machine, working lighter material at a faster rate and a lower price.
We should be straight about this: underbrush clearing and forestry mulching are the same operation. One machine, one mulching head, material ground where it stands and left on the ground. The difference is what’s standing there when we arrive.
Underbrush clearing is what people usually mean when they say brush cutting, a stand of pines or hardwoods you’re keeping, with fifteen years of briar, privet, vine and saplings underneath it that you want gone. That’s light material, it goes fast, and it prices at the bottom of the per-acre band.
We don’t run a separate brush cutter head or a rotary mower, and we don’t own a bush hog. Everything is done with the forestry mulching head. If a job genuinely needs a mower rather than a mulcher, a large flat pasture that just needs knocking down annually, say, a tractor and bush hog outfit will be cheaper than us and we’ll tell you so.
Mature pine or hardwood staying, everything underneath going.
Sight lines through a stand, for a view or for security.
Ground you can move through, for a survey, a showing, a hunt or just to know what you own.
Greenbrier in particular gets thick enough here that you genuinely cannot walk through it.
Re-clearing on a cycle is a fraction of the cost of the first pass.
The head handles stems up to about seven inches. Above that, production drops off sharply and the right answer is to fell the tree first, see tree felling, which we also do. We’ll work out which you need standing on the ground, not over the phone.
Some of it comes back. Mulching cuts at ground level rather than taking the root, so anything that stump-sprouts, privet, sweetgum, chinaberry, tallow, will send up shoots. The mulch layer suppresses it for a season or two. Most people re-cut at twelve to eighteen months, and that second pass is far cheaper than the first. Ask us to put you on the reminder list.
If the regrowth is specifically invasive species, there’s more worth knowing, see invasive plant removal.
The density of what’s standing there, and therefore the price. Same machine, same head, same method. Underbrush clearing is the light end of the band.
No. Everything we do is with the forestry mulching head. If your job genuinely wants a rotary mower, a tractor outfit will beat us on price and we’ll say so.
That’s the whole point of this service. Mark what stays with flagging tape or paint, bright and at eye height, or walk it with us and point.
About seven inches with the mulching head. Bigger than that we fell it first.
A tracked machine on saturated ground leaves ruts, and ruts on your property last far longer than the rain did. We’ll tell you honestly when a job should wait for a dry spell rather than damage your ground to keep a date.
Call and you get John Williams, not an answering service and not a dispatcher. If it’s after hours or a Sunday, send the form and you’ll have a text back and a callback first thing.
