Tree felling and selective removal

Home/Services/Tree Felling

Standing trees dropped and dealt with, the ones too big for the mulching head, the ones in the way of a build, and the dead ones you’ve been walking past for two years.

Trees over structures or near power lines
Call a certified arborist instead if the tree is near anything.

A tree over a house, a shed, a vehicle, a fence you care about or anywhere near a power line is a rigging job. That means a certified arborist with a bucket truck and the right rope work, not a clearing contractor with a machine. We will tell you this on the phone rather than take the job and hope. Where we’re the right call is open ground, where a tree has room to fall.

Where felling fits

The mulching head handles stems up to about seven inches. Plenty of jobs have trees above that mixed through them, and on those the sequence is fell first, then mulch or windrow what comes down.

Clearing acreage with mature timber on it.

Everything above seven inches comes down before the mulcher works the rest.

A build site with trees in the footprint.

Usually paired with lot clearing.

Dead, leaning or storm-damaged stems in open ground, away from anything they could land on.

Selective removal in a stand you're keeping.

Taking specific trees out to release the ones staying, or to open a view.

Widening an access road or a firebreak where the trees on the edge have outgrown the corridor.

What happens to what comes down

Mulched where the machine can process it, windrowed into a pile where it can’t. We do not haul timber or brush off the property, no dump runs, no tipping fees, and no trucking line on your invoice. If you want it removed entirely, that’s a hauling contractor after us or a burn permit in your own name, and we’ll say so at quote.

Merchantable timber

If there’s saleable pine or hardwood in what you’re clearing, say so before we quote. On enough acreage a timber sale can offset a real part of the clearing cost, and there are consulting foresters across this coast who handle it properly. We’re not timber buyers and we won’t value your stand, but we’ll flag it if we think it’s worth a forester’s time, and we’ll work around a harvest.

Stumps

Felling leaves a stump. If you need the spot clear for a footing, a slab or a utility run, the plate has to come out, that’s stump and root plate removal, and it’s a separate line on the quote. We don’t grind.

Questions we get about this

John Williams standing on the tracks of his ASV RT-120 forestry mulcher

No. That’s rigging work for a certified arborist with a bucket truck. Once it’s on the ground we can clear it.

In open ground with room to drop, most of what grows around here. What matters more than diameter is what’s downhill of it, clearance is the constraint, not size.

No. It gets mulched where the machine can reach it, or windrowed into a pile you choose. Removal from the property is a hauling contractor’s job.

Ask at quote. It’s extra machine time rather than a different service, so it’s usually possible and it’s usually cheaper than buying the wood.

Call the utility, not us. Assume every line is live. That work belongs to line-clearance crews who are trained and permitted for it.

Tell us what's on the ground. We'll come look at it.

Call and you get John Williams, not an answering service and not a dispatcher. If it’s after hours or a Sunday, send the form and you’ll have a text back and a callback first thing.
